The Proper Introduction to Diving Course Structure

The Proper Introduction to Diving is based on the PADI Open Water Diver scuba course, and is segmented into three areas:

  • Dive Theory and Knowledge
  • Confined Water dives
  • Open Water dives.

Theory and knowledge

The theory and knowledge portion of the course is structured for independent study and features -

  • CD-Rom, or traditional printed manual and dvd.
  • No formal classes, consultation by email or telephone.
  • 8-12 hours of study time required to complete this segment.

Confined Water dives

  • Five confined water training dives in the ocean - in pool-like conditions in terms of depth and clarity (training in a swimming pool is optional).
  • These sessions are designed for you to learn, practice and gain confidence in a broad range of fundamental diving skills that you will master over time as you gain diving experience.
  • 4-5 hours in the ocean.

Open Water dives

  • Four training dives to develop diving skills under real open water conditions.
  • 3-4 hours in the ocean.
  • A fifth dive - a fun dive and your first as a certified Open Water Diver!

Open Water Diver certification

Successful completion of the course will earn you the PADI Open Water Diver certification -the most widely recognized diver certification level in the world. More than that, you will be a better informed, more knowledgeable, more skilled and more confident diver than a comparable graduate of a standard dive centre course.

The Schedule

The course schedule is flexible to meet your needs. Once you’ve finished the topside study materials and organized your gear, it will take two days of in-water training to complete the course.

Preparation

  • Work through the cd-rom or manual.
  • Correspondence as required.
  • Meet to write the Final Exam and assemble all required equipment (1/2 day).
